A personable company
Our original holding company, G. Thompson Ltd, was founded in 1865 by George Thompson. A station master at St Pancras station, he identified a business opportunity to work as a freight agent for the privately owned railway companies. Aided by five of his seven sons, George grew the business from its headquarters in Hatton Garden, employing over thirty people.
The company transported a wide range of people and goods across the capital, using carriages pulled by Welsh Cobs, cared for in the company stables.
The London Courier since 1865
George Thompson passed away in 1906, having built the business into one of the most well-known and respected transportation companies of its time. G. Thompson Ltd has continued to lead the way in new developments in the courier industry, working under brand names such as Mach 1 Couriers, Pink Express, Destinations Green and A-Z Couriers, to name just a few.
We no longer deliver by horse and cart, but much about the core values of the company remain the same to this day.
Some familiar names
Absolutely has grown organically over the years, joining up with the APC Network for overnight courier deliveries, while also acquiring a number of other courier companies including well-known brands such as 3D Couriers, Go Betweens, Pink Express and Reuter Brooks.
We re-branded all of our services to become Absolutely in 2016.
